Top 3 Factors - Which Shower Is For Me?

The average person spends 5 months of their life in the shower. For many, a shower starts the day and a good, refreshing, rejuvenating shower is essential. But with so many choices, how do you choose the right shower? Here are our top 3 considerations to help you choose the perfect shower.

Mixer or thermostatic?

The first consideration is whether to choose a mixer or thermostatic shower, but what are they?

A mixer shower mixes both hot and cold water inside the fitting before it comes out of the showerhead. The main advantage of mixer showers is that they can be wall-mounted and installed with your existing water system, this means that installation is quick and simple. A thermostatic shower maintains a constant temperature using a dial or knob and doesn’t require you to blend hot and cold water yourself. Thermostatic showers are perfect for kids as they prevent scalding and if suddenly the supply of hot or cold water falls, the shower will automatically stop.

The truth is though, you can have the best of both worlds and choose a thermostatic mixer shower. Practically all of our mixers are thermostatic! Check out this beautiful chrome mixer, thermostatic shower placed in an elegant walk-through wet room

The style

Arguably, the most important factor when choosing a shower is the style. At HelloBathrooms, we offer a multitude of options to make your dream style come to life. The first question is; do you prefer a traditional or a modern style? If 'traditional’ is your bag, we’ve got you covered. Something like our ‘traditional exposed two outlet with head and riser kit’ is the perfect ‘Victorian’ style.  The rounded edges and enamel tap handles create a timeless elegance that will have you showering like an aristocrat

If you prefer a more modern look, we have plenty of options, for such design aficionados. Your next choice is going to be between round showerheads or square ones. Square shower heads are very much ‘on trend’ and help to create those sharp geometric lines  emblematic of Bauhaus design. If you are after a chic minimalist look, you can’t go wrong with our chrome Vema mixer shower.

The next thing you need to consider is the colour. Uniquely, we offer our fixtures in a variety of palettes to fit any design. Something like our matt black Italian Vema shower is perfect for creating darker accents in a bathroom and giving it a sleek modern look.

Do I need an electric shower?

There are considerable advantages to choosing an electric shower. An electric shower doesn’t rely on a boiler or supply of hot water. This means an end to fighting over who used all of the hot water and are perfect for busy homes. Thermostatic electric showers regulate the water temperature to ensure that a pleasant temperature is maintained while washing. Many people suffer from skin problems from using too hard water and a shower like the T80Z Fast-fit thermostatic shower using Dura-Flow technology means that it is ideal for those who prefer softer water.

Bathrooms: The Evolution of Design

Is there anything nuttier than a 1980’s bathroom?
Well, we guess that depends on how much you like an avocado green suite!

The 1980s were an odd time for design and certainly for bathrooms, not much existed in terms of interior design. Up and down the UK it seems DIYers and bathroom renovators were largely winging it, or at least loosely following art-deco themes.

It would be almost unimaginable to declare to your friends and family today that you'd decided to have green or pink fixtures in your bathroom, right Although, you know what they say, trends do come back around.

Now, the British public have had a steady diet of renovation education programming, from iconic Nick Knowles’ DIY SOS to Grand designs. The people of the UK including yourself, dear reader, are more discerning and are practically experts themselves in design, what with all the material so readily available to us all nowadays.

Bathrooms today!

A bathroom should feel fresh, clean and relaxing. Ideally, it'll be a sanctuary in your own home to escape to, with this reflected in its design. Take for example our Manhattan range which incorporates all of these design elements to create a space that feels harmonious and luxurious. Just because it’s no longer 1980, we don’t need to do away with colour, the dark matt blue here contrasts beautifully with the white ceramics. Likewise, the bold straight lines cut through the space and make it feel elegant and

Not Just Modern Design

2020s bathroom styling isn’t just about new-age design, it often encapsulates the best of other eras, borrowing a little from here and a smidgen from there.

The traditional design is extremely popular, with the majority of us coveting a quintessentially British, Victorian bath. When paired with elegant and minimal modern pieces, those traditional elements are complemented, offering a functional and practical bathroom for life today with a twist of opulence.
The Senna suite below mixes sculpted slimline edges with traditional fixtures, ideal to pair with standout items like our Richmond freestanding bath with chrome lions-paw feet to create a contemporary-traditional hybrid look.

If you're brave enough to go all out and prefer the fully-blown traditionalist look, you would love our Sherbourne range. It's the very best blend of old and new! Fixtures like our showstopper high-level WC, beautifully moulded full pedestal basin and enamel feature crosshead pillar taps create a timeless classical feel. Finish it off with a chandelier and the Tiverton bath below and you've a wow-factor bathroom on your hands that'll have all your visitors gushing!

Finally, we have another style of bathroom which adheres strictly to design principles: industrial design. Industrial design is all about functionality and unobtrusiveness. These bathrooms are often modelled around what already exists and focus on accentuating those features. Have a look at our Cedarwood range below, beautifully designed curved edges clash with the straight edge industrial feel of steel beams, exposed brick and slimline glass. The impact is a warm, but striking masculine design with ageless properties!

We’ve come a long way in bathroom design since the slightly garish ’80s, with us now being spoint for choice with multiple design options and avenues to explore. You can plump for traditional, modern, a marriage of the two or even industrial - the possibilities are endless, so go wild!

3 Perspectives to Consider - When Designing Your Perfect Bathroom

Your bathroom says a great deal about your home and is one of the main places that guests love to nose about when they visit. But how do you design the perfect bathroom? We have created a small guide looking at 3 perspectives to consider when designing your ideal bathroom.

Style Choices

Design is one of the most important considerations when choosing your beautiful new bathroom. You should think about how it will fit with the rest of your home. Will it be in keeping with your current interior? The first choice is between modern or traditional.

If your home is already quite traditional, you might want to consider a Victorian style bathroom, epitomising elegance. These bathrooms work extremely well in older houses with more character. You can almost imagine relaxing in a warm bubble bath on an easy Sunday morning, reading a good book in your timelessly designed bathroom. If your home is more modern, there are a plethora of design options available.

If your home is more modern, there are a plethora of design options available. At hellobathrooms, sleek & minimalist design is at the core of what we do.

Minimalist bathroom design has been on trend now for some time, with good reason, clean lines and a reduced colour palette creates such a relaxing space in your home. If you're after a contemporary look, our Valesso fitted furniture range in dark Onyx Grey Gloss will create a clean and welcoming vibe.

Cost is an extremely important factor for most of us. Our objective is to offer an outstanding choice of bathrooms at an excellent price point, we don’t believe that stunning bathrooms should be restricted by cost. For the thrifty consumer, we suggest mixing a shower and bath. Investing in a shower bath combo gives you both the functionality of a shower and the relaxing benefits of a bath. You'll be safe in the knowledge that this investment will pay rewards with regards to upping your home’s value, as most families would like both options. For other smart cost-conscious choices, consider a combined basin & WC unit. Our Venosa range in Anthracite Gloss below, mixed with a stunning white keyhole shower bath allows you to see how you can get the most out of your budget.

Space Saver
The other important thing to consider is space. Making the most of your space is essential to maximising value from your home. For many of us, we might also be designing the 2nd or even 3rd bathroom in our home and it just isn’t necessary or prudent to add more baths! If you are looking for a stunning, sleek design in your bathroom without overloading the space, we might suggest something like our RefleXion 2 door enclosure. It encapsulates chic minimalism and makes the most of existing space
